Packaging System Integration provided a leading surface solutions provider a new custom case sealer and corner-wrap labeling system to help boost their packaging productivity. The company was looking to increase output and reduce labor costs for their case sealing and labeling production line. PSI provided a solution by integrating a Label-Aire 3138N Merge Print & Apply Applicator onto an Eastey SB-2EXN Case Sealer.
Eastey SB-2EXN Side Belt Case Taper 
Eastey’s SB-2EXN Side Belt Case Taper with 3 flap closure and 3” wide tape has a unique and simple design that has proven to consistently provide reliable, high quality case sealing. The SB-2EX’s side belts are great for light or heavy weight, narrow or small boxes. It is ideal for void-fill cases where the packaged product does not support the box.
Label-Aire 3138N Merge Printer/Applicator
Label-Aire’s Model 3138N Merge Printer Applicator prints and applies labels fast and accurately using Label-Aire’s proven wipe-on labeling technology. The applicator can apply either a side-panel label or a corner-wrap label on demand. Advanced features include automatic setup with multiple programmable label pages for easy change-overs to labels of different sizes, rate compensation for improved label placement accuracy, and advanced user-configurable I/O connectivity. This particular applicator came with a Zebra ZE500 OEM print engine that is easy to operate and maintain.
The Final Results
The new integrated system runs 20 to 30 cases per minute, depending on the size of the cases. Labels can be applied to a single side or corner wrapped. This system has a unique footprint of 40 ft² which is ideal for small spaces which the company was looking for. As a result of this integration, the company increased output and reduced their labor costs on their production line.
